WCSD School Board President Beth Smith and Trustee Diane Nicolet Under Investigation?

WCSD Dysfunction and Bias Continues

Washoe County School District, under the leadership of Superintendent Susan Enfield, appears to be continuing its march toward dysfunction at every level within the district. WCSD Trustee Jeff Church has called for a formal investigation surrounding false accusations of sexual harassment against him by two WCSD employees without any evidence to substantiate the accusations.

Before meeting with Smith and Nicolet, Church asked if the meeting concerned him personally. Implying that it wasn’t, he attended the meeting alone and was “ambushed,” according to Church. Smith and Nicolet proceeded to present accusations against him by the two employees. The two trustees then asked him to sign documents without giving him an opportunity to carefully review them. In misrepresenting the meeting’s topic, they denied Church’s right to representation at the meeting. The district also refused Church’s request to see evidence substantiating the accusations. Church, citing NRS statute, was finally able to access the district’s security video which showed him alone in the boardroom using his computer at the same time the two employees claimed the harassment occurred at a different location.

Smith, Nicolet, and District Counsel Neil Rombardo have all refused to respond to Church’s request for a formal investigation including Smith’s and Nicolette’s actions and statements preceding and during the meeting.

Church is requesting an investigation into the alleged harassment including Smith’s recent response where she called Church “a liar.” Church has responded by saying, “Her comments further indicate a need for a thorough investigation of the entire matter.”

Church, often a lone dissenting vote on board votes, has been subjected to biased and harsh criticism by other trustees, the board presidents, and two superintendents.

WCSD has refused to investigate the issue. (Updated 12/15/23 @ 9:55 pm)
