Many County Library surprises this week

Washoe County Library News

A lot has been happening in the Washoe County Library system. Last week, Library Board Trustee Anne Medaille resigned from her position before her term was up. Then, this past week, the sitting Chair of the Library Board of Trustees Amy Ghilieri, after not winning approval for a second term from the County Commissioners at their July 11, 2023 meeting, stated that she will not seek a second 4-year term. This leaves 2 openings on the Library Board that county commissioners will need to fill.

Al Rogers, retired gym teacher, was appointed to the Library Board of Trustees by the County Commissioners at their recent June 27th meeting. He filled a trustee vacancy that began in July 2022.

Upcoming Library Board meetings to be held remotely

Yesterday, the Washoe County Library Board of Trustees announced unexpectedly without stating a reason that the upcoming July and August meetings will be held online only. Those wishing to give public comment will need to do so online or by phone.

Library Audit in the works

A recent library audit has been ordered by the County’s Audit Committee in response to the many complaints heard by County Commissioners and the Audit Committee surrounding the sexual and graphic content of books in the county’s public libraries’ young adult and children’s sections.
